Robert Creeley reads his poem “The Woman” in a July 1965 interview with Richard O. Moore. This film was produced and edited in 1975 by the American Poetry Archive/Poetry Center at San Francisco State University. The footage of Robert Creeley and his wife, Bobbie Louise Creeley, was shot at their home in Placitas, New Mexico.

When I Look Up (Caleb Klaces / Corinne Silva)

“Jaybird Live Literature and The Poetry Society commissioned six poets to create new pieces to celebrate National Poetry Day 2015, the theme of which was ‘light’. The poems followed the path of light over one October day. Artist and filmmaker Corinne Silva then made filmpoems of six of the poems. Caleb’s poem occurs between 2am and 4am.”

sun breaks over the eucalyptus
grove below the wet pasture,
water’s about hot,
I sit in the open window
& roll a smoke.

distant dogs bark, a pair of
cawing crows; the twang
of a pygmy nuthatch high in a pine -
from behind the cypress windrow
the mare moves up, grazing.

a soft continuous roar
comes out of the far valley
of the six-lane highway - thousands
and thousands of cars
driving men to work.
